How to Catch Best Holiday Lights Displays in DC

One of the best things about the holidays is the beautiful light displays across the cities. And the Washington DC metro area is no exception.

USA Guided Tours makes it easier for you to chase some of the best light displays in the DMV. As a toddler mom, I highly recommend their Holiday Lights Tour. It's family friendly and takes the hassle out of juggling your kids in and out of the car and finding parking at each location. I took my 1 year old last year and it was such a great way to see all of the lights

The tour is equipped with:

  • A knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide!

  • Spacious and comfortable heated bus.

  • Storage for your baby stroller.

  • Six light display stops.

Six DC Light Displays in One Night

1. The White House

This will be an easy one for you to cross off your bucket list thanks to USA Guided Tours. The White House Tree is one that is a must see in the Washington DC metro area. And this year they will be celebrating 101 years of lighting. Surrounding the tree are smaller trees decorated with ornaments made from 56 U.S. states and territories. It is an experience for the memory book.

A skating rink is the newest addition to The White House holiday activities.

2. The U.S. Capitol

Each year, a different national forest is selected to provide the tree, known as "The People's Tree, for the U.S. Capitol building. The 2023 tree was selected from the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. The gorgeous tree this year will be a 63-foot Norway Spruce.

3. City Center

CityCenter is already known to be one of the most instagram-able spots in DC. Get ready for holiday lights on display stretching 5-city blocks. CityCenter is the destination for downtown's luxury experiences.

4. Canadian Embassy

Another tree to behold is the merry red Canadian tree displayed in the Canadian Embassy rotunda. This magnificent and elegant display is one of the most picturesque spots on my list!

5. Old Town, Alexandria

The Christmas Tree in Old Town Alexandria, VA sits in the center of Market Square. Don't forget to check out the number of Holiday events and markets throughout Old Town! There's something fun for the whole family throughout the month of December. Come out and support the small local shops.

6. National Harbor

Want to see a whole city decked out in lights? National Harbor is the place to go. Their 60-foot RGB tree offers nightly tree light shows that play half an hour from sunset to 9pm every night to the tune of a recording from the U.S. Air Force Band. Each Saturday at 5:30pm through the end of the month bask in their fireworks display following the tree lighting.

And you don't want to missed the decked out Gaylord Hotel which offers their own set of events including ICE! This year's ICE! display is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™. This display is a fun event for the whole family. With larger-than-life ice sculptures made out of two million pounds of ice carved by artisans and take a plunge down the slide made entirely out of ice!
